With the contemporary world in shambles, there is greater need for understanding and solidarity to promote peace, freedom and progress especially in the oppressed regions deprived of basic human rights.

The deficiency in empathy towards human suffering is attributed to preoccupation and prioritization of personal interests compounded with the survival of the fittest instinct prevalent in the present environment.

Compassion and selfless dedication to humanitarian cause was the moral essence of Jesus Christ message exemplified in action.

Lord Jesus perseverance in exercising God’s will to restore hope and bright future is a testament to mankind upon adherence to virtuous life.

Celebrating the birth of Jesus – the Prophet and Savior

December 25, 2010

By Padmini Arhant

Today the world celebrates the birth of a star that illumined the sky upon descending on earth.

Lord Jesus represented the kingdom of God and sent with love to serve humanity.

The humble preacher touched many hearts and minds with his message about compassion, peace and respect for one another.

Jesus exemplified gospel through indomitable service and sacrifice to uplift human spirit.

Lord Jesus is the glory of God.

The great saint approached the willing and the reluctant members in the society to lead them towards the righteous path as the only trail to salvation.

Lord Jesus was confronted with strong opposition among those resolute in their convictions about the noble messiah.

Yet, the few who initially followed Lord Jesus were not disappointed for they recognized the wisdom and courage in the teachings that eliminated doubts about the lord’s ability to heal the wounded, educate the ignorant, enrich the knowledgeable and empower the pious souls regardless of one’s faith towards the son of God.

Accordingly Lord Jesus’ disciples were honored and assigned the humanitarian tasks to alleviate suffering and bring solace to the desolate children of God.

These apostles too were posed with numerous challenges by those against the divine work.

Jesus spoke in simple terms and warned his followers of the impediments:

“Behold, I send you out as sheep among wolves. So be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. Be wary of men who will betray you. You will even be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them.” – Matthew 10:16-18

16” I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. 17 “Be on your guard against men; they will hand you over to the local councils and flog you in their synagogues. 18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles.”

In modern day the flogging could be interpreted as vitriolic attacks, distortions, false propaganda, influencing justice denial notwithstanding the extremities witnessed in perpetual eulogies and archetype obituaries wishing death to the truth speaker in rejection of ‘The God’s will’ to establish peace.

Needless to state that there is no dearth of medium and allies in executing the order even at the inevitable self-detriment.

At the same time these powerful entities never shy away from utilizing the divine source with authority implying the ‘enslaved’ status by keeping tabs on every breath of their slave when they are the ones requiring vigilance considering their operational revelations thus far.

Whenever it is not suitable the same spiritual force mocked as ‘witchcraft’ or ‘sorcery’ despite them demanding special effects to produce results in their favor.

Nonetheless there is no difference in human response between then and now to ‘God’s determined’ course of action against calamities brought upon by greed driven power resisting goodness to prevail in the face of harsh realities.

All prophets invariably provided guidance in moral and ethical conduct. The emphasis on negative vices such as envy, greed, hatred, anger and arrogance…is a reminder to renounce qualities that hinders individual progress eventually affecting all.

In the contemporary period the two most prevalent causes for unhappiness are envy and intolerance.

Intolerance stems from lack of understanding and interest in other cultures and religions often leading to disrespectful treatment of the relevant representation. Regrettably the slight for other religions demonstrated in some religious sermons could be appropriately characterized as theatrical to appease the crowd.

Religious activities are beneficial when spreading tolerance and respect for all in appreciation of God’s created diverse universe. Otherwise the performance becomes mere entertainment rather than enlightenment.

Tolerance engenders peace within and around that is quintessential for real happiness.

Envy is related to lower self-esteem and insecurity about personal success or failure in life. It also originates from misconceptions and judgmental thoughts in certain situations hurting the ones harboring than those targeted.

Disinheriting the negative traits that cause harm to self and others is the simple step towards peaceful existence.

The global environment thrives when there is harmony enabling the development of friendship and good relationship between neighbors and distant nations.

Today’s problems are the result of excess desire to amass wealth and territories beyond the capability to control.

In the process the thread holding the fabric is splitting at the seams and visible in the economic and ecological imbalance threatening planet survival.

New beginnings await in the horizon for redemption when the human mind distinguishes between illusion and reality.

Peace and happiness rests with choices in life. It’s best to embrace simplicity over complexity and avoid unnecessary frustrations from it.

Human beings are gifted with the discriminatory power that enhances their intelligence to make informed decisions.

Not all utilize the ability for the common benefit. If it’s used then unfortunately for the wrong instead of the right reasons.

There is still hope to change direction for positive outcome. However, a greater degree of responsibility lies with the individuals’ approach to life.

Since the year-end quarter marks the festive season and celebrations for most religions,

I take the opportunity to wish the followers of different faiths and members of the global society retrospectively, for I might have missed the occasions not by choice but owing to circumstances and duly apologize for the belated greetings.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa to people following the tradition in the United States and other parts of the world.

Ramzan aka Ramadan for the people of Islamic faith – Observed with fasting and prayer.

Buddha Purnima also known as Vesak and Buddha Jayanti in India – commemorating Lord Gautama Buddha’s birth and attainment of Nirvana – enlightenment of soul through universal knowledge. It’s symbolic in India and other parts of Asia.

On the auspicious celebration for the followers of Sikhism –

Guru Nanak Jayanti or Guru Nanak Birthday. Guru Nanak is the leading saint and the spiritual guide who preached the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh Holy Scripture sharing the common elements of all other religions to overcome negativities and discipline the mind to engage in good deeds.

The scripture defines the service to humanity through benevolence and that is admirably pursued by Sikh majority in India and elsewhere.

Season’s Greetings to observers of Jainism, Zoroastrianism, Bahá’í…and others around the world.

As a secular being, I pay my equal respect and reverence to all faiths with the personal belief that life is the manifestation of energy from a singular source regarded as the supreme entity in the spiritual sense.

Universal love and peace brings joy to the world.

Happy Holidays, Peaceful and Prosperous New Year to the fellow citizens in the United States and all over the World.

Thank You.

Diwali Greetings – The Festival of Lights Celebration in India

November 5, 2010

By Padmini Arhant

Happy Diwali! to all Hindus as well as others in India and around the world.

Diwali is the festival of lights and an occasion to celebrate the triumphant of good over evil.

In contemporary life, the festival marks the fresh beginning with an opportunity to strengthen the positive virtues and discard the negative vices for a better future.

The prayer for joy, good health and success in life is the festival essence.

It is celebrated by exchanging gifts and delicious Indian sweets with colorful fireworks decorating the sky. The celebration promotes solidarity and human spirit to share happiness with all.

I join all those celebrating this wonderful festival and pray for universal peace, progress and prosperity.

I hope the brilliant lights illumine the world and expel the pervasive darkness as we approach the end of Kaliyuga (Immoral Iron Age) for a new promising era (Satya Yuga – The Golden Age) with compassion, love, unity and peace.

Once again, “Sab Ko Diwali Mubarak,” “Deepavali Nal Valthukal.”

Happy and Joyous Diwali / Deepavali to all!

Ayodhya Verdict – Indian High Court Decision

October 1, 2010

By Padmini Arhant

The Allahabad High Court in the Indian northern state Uttar Pradesh delivered its verdict on the long awaited settlement related to the Ayodhya Holy site shared between Hindus and Muslims since 16th century.

Ayodhya has religious significance being the Hindu God, Lord Ram’s birth place.

Lord Ram is the virtuous Avatar or Reincarnation of Lord Vishnu. Lord Ram exemplified peace commitments through self-sacrifice.

Similarly, the Mosque on the site attracted many Muslims from far and wide. It was a common worship place for both religious groups over four centuries.

However, the tranquility dissipated leading to litigation over the land proprietary rights.

The lawsuit filed much earlier on finally came to fruition with the court’s decision on September 29, 2010.

Judiciary was fairly represented with a Muslim and Hindu justices serving the respective religious interests within the constitutional law.

The outcome allocated the land rights in equal proportions to the three parties and outlined the individual judgments on the specific issues.

Judicial findings in this matter are concurrent with the applicable law confined to the Indian constitutional framework and verifiable evidences.

Accordingly it reflected fairness and equality in semblance with ‘Lord Ram’s’ character conforming to the precise ruling perhaps through time travel in the “Ram Rajya” i.e. Lord Ram’s Kingdom or simultaneous adherence by the Moghul ruler Babur to maintain unity.

Therefore, the religious and political representatives’ initial agreement to the High Courts’ secular position now transformed into challenge at the Supreme Court confirms individual agenda overriding rationality and denying respect for the relevant entities they claim to defend.

Such arguments and initiatives are not only disingenuous but also counterproductive.

The co-existence of a Hindu temple beside a Mosque with the premise accessible to the Hindu and Muslim worshippers on an equal basis is the ideal solution to the prolonged dispute.

Any attempt to sabotage the honorable result in the decades old legal battle would exacerbate the delicate status quo.

Exploring further legal opportunities in this regard would be wasting valuable time and resources that could otherwise be invested in promoting solidarity and inter-faith relationships.

Indian democracy demonstrated admirable maturity by remaining calm at the height of ‘National Alert’ and preparedness to accept the High Court determination regardless is praiseworthy.

It is imperative to maintain decorum and pursue peaceful strategies to resolve the problems and reconcile the simple differences among all three religious groups – Sunni Waqf Board, Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.

Approaching the issues with genuine empathy for one another and willingness to accommodate others’ essential needs could lead to successful negotiations without legal intervention.

India should take pride in the religious and cultural diversity that has contributed to various progresses in the society.

Participants avoiding divisive dialogue in the media and Public Square would enormously heal the wounds from the past and the present undercurrents.

People are obviously tired of the discussions prioritizing self-interest over national interest.

It is clear that the Hindu and Muslim residents in the Ayodhya community welcome the High Court decision and look forward to a new beginning.

With peace dawning on Ayodhya through High Court diligence, the matter is best put to rest for greater good.

It’s an occasion to renew hope and safeguard the democratic values against the emerging threats on this issue.

Peace and harmony is to be cherished and celebrated for they are the unique gifts to humanity.

Ayodhya is symbolic to Hindus and Muslims alike with an urgency to recognize the fact that,

“Lord Ram is also Rahim and vice versa.”

At the end of the day the reality being;

Quoting Author – Muhammad Iqbal – Indian National Song

“mażhab nahīñ sikhātā āpas meñ bair rakhnā
hindī haiñ ham, vat̤an hai hindostāñ hamārā

or,

Religion does not teach us to bear ill-will among ourselves
We are of Hind, our homeland is Hindustan.”

Thank you.

Islam – The Religion of Peace

September 10, 2010

By Padmini Arhant

Islam has been the target of the political, religious and social demagoguery.

Today, Islam – a sacred religion with an approximate 1.5 billion followers is the scapegoat for the ideologues representing the various factions in the world society.

From terrorism, warfare, politics, religion to social domain – Islam is the convenient alibi.

The actions are meant to reflect the so-called “tolerance, acceptance, and social equality.”

The ideology has no limit in seizing the opportunity to promote the individual belief, rights, political clout and image. Such irrationality stems from defiance against one’s own reasoning faculties.

If religion is commercialized by the religious authorities, the political opportunists politicize for their personal agenda.

As for the mainstream media – they do not wish to be left behind in the popularity contest.

So they play a dominant role in sensationalizing the issues and elevate narcissism to evangelism.

United States is confronted with two social issues surrounding Islam.

Burn the “Qur’an” day and the interfaith community center construction in Lower Manhattan, New York.

With respect to the provocative declaration against “The Holy Qur’an,” – The pastor Terry Jones in Gainesville, Florida – an unknown entity for obvious reasons until yesterday is now a celebrity in his own rights predominantly due to unnecessary media attention.

Amid speculations on the consequences following the desecration threat, the global condemnation from the highest hierarchies is justified but fails to recognize the real forces behind the inflammatory remarks and actions.

Pastor Terry Jones having assumed the responsibility to preach the gospel teachings of “Lord Jesus Christ,” is preparing to demonstrate his misconceptions about Islam and the religious scripture that personifies peace in every aspect.

The pastor’s intention overrides the virtues exemplified by the founder of Christianity – “Lord Jesus Christ,” – peace, love and compassion icon.

Attempts to insult Islam or any religion without exception are a direct assault on the religion they pretend to represent.

For true believers and the faithful ones would do everything in their power to be inclusive and not exclusive as witnessed in the contentious religious discourse.

As a result ignorance is pervasive in claiming that Christianity, Judaism and Islam are distinctive in one way or another regardless of all religions epitomizing peace and solidarity.

Denying equal respect to all religions is blatant rejection of “Almighty God,” – one supreme spiritual power worshiped by all through different sources.

Notwithstanding the discriminatory practice being disingenuous to the religion upheld as superior against the rest.

In this instance, the pastor’s decision to denigrate Islam suggests “Lord Jesus Christ” repeat crucifixion.

Allowing hatred, malice and presumptuousness to prevail over peace, harmony and humility is a sign of weakness and insecurity.

Islam is revered by Muslims in the same manner as Christianity by Christians, Judaism by Jews, Hinduism by Hindus, Sikhism by Sikhs, Buddhism by Buddhists, Jainism by Jains, Zoroastrianism by Parsis, Baha’ism by Baha’i…and all others whose forgiveness is sought for not being specified.

Any dispute in this regard would be arising from personal disposition against universal acknowledgment.

Pastor Terry Jones needs soul searching and reconciliation with reality.

If the pastor is submitted to Lord Jesus Christ and the lord’s clearly defined morals then he would wisely refrain from negative thoughts, words and deeds with an inevitable harm to fellow human beings whether they are American troops or Muslim friends and neighbors – essentially the humanity at large.

Pastors and priests have a greater obligation to pursue peace and help easing tensions in communities not become the cause for publicity.

Hence for Christ sake and the love of Jesus, abandoning disrespectful and demeaning activities against other religions would lead to discovering peace within and eventually assist in spreading peace around.

Hopefully, the pastor would heed to the concerned citizens plea and devote his attention in bringing people of all faiths together rather than indulging in divisive motives.

Peace to Islam and all other religions around the world.

Thank you.
